Jewelry is checked for purity and weight, while coins, diamonds, gemstones, watches and recognizable designer pieces are considered for possible value beyond their metal content.
Our shop has two professional bench XRF analyzers for in-house metal testing. Depending on the item, we may also use visual examination, accurate weighing, magnets, acid testing and other appropriate methods. Hallmarks such as 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, 417, 585 and 750 are useful starting points, but stamps can be inaccurate, counterfeit or affected by repairs and mixed components.
In-house verification is especially valuable with large gold holdings, high-karat jewelry, unmarked pieces and mixed estate groups. Accurate testing reduces uncertainty and allows us to make a competitive offer based on verified results rather than a generalized estimate. Stones, clasps, springs and other non-gold components are considered and explained during the evaluation.
Gold coins and recognized bullion products receive a separate evaluation so collectible or marketable pieces are not automatically treated as recyclable gold. No appointment is required during normal business hours. Contact us in advance for unusually large collections, formal written appraisals, safe-deposit-box work or bullion transactions of $100,000 or more. Large bullion transactions should be scheduled on weekdays during market hours.
