Oakton Coins & Collectibles buys and sells U.S. coins, world coins, paper currency, and complete collections. Some items carry collector value beyond their metal content, while others are valued more simply based on type, condition, and current demand.
Most collections come in during a life transition — inheritance, downsizing, estate cleanouts, or long-held items being revisited after many years. We evaluate everything in person and explain what you have in a straightforward way.
Selling Coins or a Coin Collection
We work with everything from small groups of coins to full collections. If you’re simply looking to sell coins, or dealing with a larger group like an inherited coin collection, we can review everything and walk you through it step by step.
Some collections come in loose, while others are organized in albums or stored away in boxes. We regularly evaluate full coin collections, including professionally graded material such as PCGS and NGC certified coins.
If you’re not sure what you have, you can start with our guide on how to identify inherited coins, or simply bring everything in and we’ll sort through it with you.
Understanding Coin Value
Some coins are worth more than their metal content, while others trade closer to bullion value. Condition, rarity, and collector demand all play a role. We help separate out what matters and explain how different parts of a collection are valued.
Our team specializes in numismatic coin evaluation, and we’re always happy to explain terminology or answer questions along the way. If you’re unfamiliar with the language used in coin collecting, our numismatic terms guide is a helpful place to start.
Coins & Paper Money We See
We buy a wide range of U.S. and world coins and paper currency, including:
- World Coins
- U.S. Paper Currency
- World Paper Money
- Mint & Proof Sets
- We purchase entire coin collections, whether they are carefully graded / assembled or just randomly accumulated over time.
Many collections include a mix of these categories, often accumulated over decades. It’s common to see everything grouped together — coins, currency, and sometimes even gold or silver items mixed in.
A Straightforward Way to Sell
Coins and paper money are best evaluated in person. We review collections carefully, explain what you have, and make offers based on current market demand.
There are no fees for evaluations, and no pressure to sell. Our goal is to give you clear information so you can decide what makes sense.
What to Expect When Bringing in a Collection
Many people assume that if a collection took years to put together, it will take a long time for us to sort through it. In reality, most evaluations are quicker than expected.
We’ve reviewed thousands of collections over the years, and certain patterns tend to repeat. The way coins are grouped, stored, or labeled often reflects how they were originally collected — and that usually makes it easier for us to understand what we’re looking at right away.
In many cases, the more intact a collection is, the faster we can evaluate it. For that reason, it’s best to leave everything as-is. Avoid reorganizing, separating items, or trying to “improve” the appearance before bringing it in.
Cleaning coins — even lightly — will permanently destroy collector value. It’s one of the most common mistakes we see, and it’s not reversible. Cleaning doesn’t reveal value — it usually removes it.
Even larger collections are usually more manageable than people expect. Whether it’s a small group or something that’s been built over decades, we’ll work through it with you and explain what matters.
